How to solve counting problem for Rebar rolling mill
The challenge is these Rebars are difficult to be counted manually at
the plant, due to their high volume in numbers. The rate of production
of Rebars is also high and thus there is a requirement to develop a
method that will automatically count the Rebars quickly. Additionally,
Rebars cannot always remain at the same level when they are strapped in a
bundle. They are sometimes jutting out from the main bundle which adds
to inconvenience. The Rebars are counted manually at distributors end
when they form sub-bundles, which are then passed on to the Dealers. The
Rebars finally get sold in the retail market in numbers.
This is also a question which many rebar steel manufacturer meet together. Due to count by workers, one problem is low counting speed, the other problem is the low counting accuracy.
From year of 2003, we have take this question as a study subject in China. As you know, China is also a big market for iron and steel industry. We collect technical data from local steel mill, and study in our institute. Through a period of research and adjustment, finally we developed the automatic bar counting system.
It is different with the traditional methord. The working theory is non-contact image identification processing. The system use the images of the steel bars to count. And most important, it can keep high accuracy. The count range of the steel bars from 8mm to 50mm diameter. Once the system come into market, it get very good feedback of the end users. And it has also put into the overseas market for using.
