How to detect Surface quality of high speed rods&wires with high efficiency

Upon the request of rolling mill customer's demand, SINOM team developed the smarteye online inspection system.


It is an online defect and dimension inspection system for plates, rods and wires and strip steels based on high-speed video. The system consists of visual system, cooling protective system, quakeproof system and mobile inspection system, which can inspect the surface defects, dimension of finished products and other parameters.

It shall timely alarm the periodic defects caused by production technology, in order to improve yield of rods and wires, and subtract cost.

1. Wire rod diameter (or width): <300mm (it may customize visual inspection system);

2. Dimensional accuracy: 0.09mm (it may customize visual inspection system);

3. Defect accuracy: width >0.1mm (it may be customized according to users’ requirements);

4. Sampling frequency: 70,000 – 110,000 times/second;

5. Movement speed of rods and wires: 120m/s.

Transportation and Storage Precautions For Graphite Electrode

1. The graphite electrode must be covered with rainproof tent cloth during transportation. 2. Use a forklift to transport the stacking electrode. Only one layer is allowed at a time, and balance center should be watched to prevent it from falling. 3. When using a crane for loading and unloading, it is necessary to use a separate wire rope, and do not directly hook the steel packing tape of the electrode. 4. The graphite electrode should be stored in a clean, dry place. It must be covered with a rainproof cloth when putting it in open air. The stacking height should not exceed 4 layers. 5. The graphite electrode should be placed next to electric furnace for drying before use. The temperature should not exceed 150℃and the time should not be less than 24 hours. 6. How to solve counting problem for Rebar rolling mill

The challenge is these Rebars are difficult to be counted manually at the plant, due to their high volume in numbers. The rate of production of Rebars is also high and thus there is a requirement to develop a method that will automatically count the Rebars quickly. Additionally, Rebars cannot always remain at the same level when they are strapped in a bundle. They are sometimes jutting out from the main bundle which adds to inconvenience. The Rebars are counted manually at distributors end when they form sub-bundles, which are then passed on to the Dealers. The Rebars finally get sold in the retail market in numbers.
